Kyo Tagawa created the highlighted concept art. (https://www.artstation.com/sorvel_64). Annie Cho did some of the texture passes as well.
Continuing my work on Raven Company’s: The Mission, this piece is another part of the larger Kryll Broodspire structure set developed for the game. This asset is called the Kryll Perch, one of three large-scale environmental structures designed to help define the alien architecture.
The Kryll Perch is a massive broodspire structure intended to create a strong sense of scale within the environment. The goal was to design something that felt imposing, that established the Kryll's dominance of the enviornment.
This was another highly collaborative asset. The original concept was created by Kyo Tagawa (https://www.artstation.com/sorvel_6), while I handled the asset through the production pipeline, including high poly modeling, low poly/retopology, and baking. The texturing process involved multiple iterations, with material work and texture support from Annie Cho (https://www.achoanimation.com/copy-of-home). Base materials were created in Substance 3D Designer.
Working on these structures has been a great opportunity to explore a style that sits outside my usual comfort zone. The project pushed me to think more about exaggerated forms, organic hard-surface blending, and creating assets that feel both alien and believable at a large scale.
Raven Company’s: The Mission is an upcoming VR extraction shooter currently in development by Sty1e Studios, focused on bringing the extraction shooter experience into VR. More updates on the project, including an upcoming Kickstarter campaign, will be shared in the future.
