This piece is the Hive Nest, a resource prop created for Raven Company’s: The Mission. The Hive Nest functions as an interactive element that stores valuable Hive eggs for players to collect during exploration and extraction runs.
The nest contains two different types of collectible eggs: a standard Hive Egg and a rarer Ancient Egg. The goal with this asset was to create something that felt biologically grown and slightly unsettling while still remaining readable.
I wanted the structure to feel like a living part of the environment rather than a traditional container or loot object. The organic forms, layered surfaces, and embedded egg clusters were designed to reinforce the alien nature of the Kryll art direction.
The original concept art was created by Kyo Tagawa (https://www.artstation.com/sorvel_64), while I handled the modeling process from high poly, low poly/retopology, and baking. The texturing process went through several iterations, with both myself and Annie Cho contributing to the look. Base materials were created in Substance 3D Designer.
Raven Company’s: The Mission is an upcoming VR extraction shooter currently being developed by Sty1e Studios, with the goal of bringing the extraction shooter genre into VR. The project is still actively in development, with more updates and an upcoming Kickstarter campaign planned for the future.
